The poker history Historians do not agree about the real origin of poker, some argue that the game name comes from French “Poque”, which comes from German “Pochen” (hit). Poker, as it is known, has a great similitude with the Persian game “as nas”; so it is probable that the game has been taught to French settlers in New Orleans by Persian sailors. It is believe that poker is related to the renaissance old game called “primero”, and with the French one “blean”, from English game “brag” (formerly bragg), a descendant of “brelan” and incorporated the bluffing “deceit or bluff”, although although such a concept was already known for other games of the season. All of these games has something of the poker of our days; as the game evolve, the number of cards that were used changed, at the beginning there were used 20 cards, now it is used the 52 cards French deck. During the XIX century, the game rules were perfected, and by 1925, games with shared cards appear, which are similar to the current Texas Holdem. The objective of the poker game is to organize the cards in “hands”; in order to do that, 5 cards are dealt to each player and the winner player is who has the highest cards combination between the other’s hands. |
